Caretaker's Cottage

The caretaker's cottage is in much need of repair due to subsidence and recent monsoonal rains. The roofing is badly rusted and is not providing a waterproof barrier, there is cracking in one wall and the verandah has collapsed! We have had to move staff out of the cottage and they are currently taking residence in the community hall until we are able to carry out the repairs. it is hopeful that repair works will commence after this year's monsoons.

New building

The Haven's volunteer-run medical practice is currently utilising a space within the mission's residential accommodation. To properly cater for the needs of the medical clinic and allow further expansion of resident places, a new building is proposed to be constructed near the existing caretaker's house. A generous bequest has allowed us to fund the new building in the near future!! Plans are underway and we hope to start construction soon. Construction may require people with a trade to assist in the building process.

Farming

The charity owns a tractor used for on-site farming activities. When it is not required, the tractor is leased to local farms to assist in their harvesting and other farming operations. One of the goals of the mission is that farming activities will financially support the mission towards greater self-sufficiency in the future. We need to construct a garage to house the tractor for protection from the elements.

Education - short term training

A goal of Mission India FHL is to provide training to residents using  expert volunteers to deliver short courses in a variety of fields such as sewing, trade-based courses, teacher professional development and others. The mission would then provide a certificate to those who complete the course that will provide a 'point of difference' when they seek employment in their chosen occupation.

Medical Clinic transport

While the Haven Village provides a free part-time medical clinic for the local villagers and residents, we only provide general medical services. The volunteer Doctor refers the more severe cases to a Hospital close to a city centre. However, given the Hospital is over an hour's drive away, access and transportation is difficult. We have recently secured a Government vehicle to be used as an ambulance based at the mission. Housing of the vehicle is our responsibility so a construction of a garage is planned.

Rescue and sense of purpose

The mission's primary goals continue to be to provide a place for the destitute and give them a hope for a future. Mission India reaches out to children and the destitute who have no hope, provide them a place to live and assist with their educational needs. One of the mission objectives is to ask our supporters for a relatively small yearly donation of between $100 and $150 AU to support a child's educational expenses that will ensure they are given the opportunity for a bright future.
